In early January we ordered 5 windows and 1 large sliding glass door from Gem Windows and Doors in Castle Hill. Their prices were competitive and the pick up outlet was nearby at Prestons. We also ordered the fly screens which we were going to do later but I know what Chris is like with bugs so we bit the bullet and just added them to the order!
About 2 weeks after the order, I had a brain snap and decided I wanted an extra window put in the living area that will overlook the dam and receive the morning sunlight. The walls had already been erected and it was only when we were driving to the farm to fix Patty’s broken wheel bearing that I addressed the additional window with Johnny. Prepared for the worst, I was sat in the back seat of his Rodeo on the drive down when I asked the question. I was bracing for a flat out “No” answer and maybe a bit of swearing or kickback, but surprisingly I got neither! He said it would be easier now than after the cladding goes on!
Stoked! We ordered another window at the next chance but unfortunately it put a hold on when we can do the windows as this now meant a delay on delivery of all the windows as a whole.
Pick up was a nightmare. I had a migraine and very little tolerance for the heat and the heavy lifting. But we got it all on the trailer, strapped down and home safe. Only one incident when a gust of wind hit us on an angle that shifted the glass door on the highway. We pulled over and re-secured it then took the drive home slow!
**10th March 2016**
Made a spur of the moment decision to take the windows down the farm. Chris hired a dual axle trailer and picked it up early.
After a lot of strapping and unstrapping the sliding door was finally in place. The small windows packed against it.
We set off at 11am only to pull over at the next exit off the highway as one of the wooden supports came loose. Chris tied it all up again with rope with no further issues. You don’t realise how rough roads are in NSW until you are carting glass over a trip 300km!
The windows and reveals were installed in the post Part 7 - External Walls.
